Meet Agnus

Agnus Berenato grew up in Gloucester, New Jersey, with 9 siblings. She played professional Basketball in France prior to attending and playing basketball at the University of North Carolina and Mount Saint Mary’s college. Her head coaching career began at Rider University (1982–1985), leading the team to its best record in school history during her first season.

Agnus joined Georgia Tech as an assistant coach and was quickly promoted to head coach. Over 15 seasons, she guided the Yellow Jackets to their first NCAA Tournament appearance and secured the 1992 National Women's Invitational Tournament title.

Agnus took the helm at the University of Pittsburgh in 2003, where she became the all-time women's basketball wins leader. Her tenure included five consecutive postseason berths, highlighted by back-to-back Sweet Sixteen appearances in 2008 and 2009.

In 2016, Agnus was appointed head coach at Kennesaw State University. Under her leadership, the Owls achieved notable successes, including two ASUN Conference Tournament victories and multiple postseason appearances. She also mentored several players to conference honors and prioritized academic excellence within the team.

Beyond coaching, Agnus is deeply committed to community service and international outreach. Annually, she participates in medical missions with Surgicorps International — most recently in 2025 to Zambia — and served as a Women's Leadership Ambassador for the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan, Kuwait and Qatar visiting troops, and traveling to countries such as Suriname and Guyana to conduct basketball clinics and promote youth empowerment.

Agnus and her husband Jack have five children and eight grandchildren.

Agnus's dedication to excellence, both on and off the court, continues to inspire athletes and communities worldwide.
